    History

    • The National Center for Children's Rehabilitation (known as the Republican Center until 2016) welcomed its first patients on September 10, 2007.
    • For the first 15 years, the Center was headed by Sholpan Adilzhanovna Bulekbayeva, an experienced healthcare leader, highly qualified neurologist and rehabilitation physician, and Doctor of Medical Sciences. Her contribution to the development of pediatric rehabilitation in Kazakhstan was recognized with state honors, including the Shapagat Medal and the Parasat Order. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the treatment and rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy.
    • As the nation's pioneer in the field, the Center established the first comprehensive rehabilitation system for children with psychoneurological and neuro-orthopedic conditions. This holistic approach integrates medical, social, and psycho-pedagogical support alongside personalized clinical nutrition, general, special, and corrective education, and adaptive sports programs aligned with the Paralympics.
    • The Center was the first in Kazakhstan to introduce a number of advanced rehabilitation technologies, including dynamic proprioceptive correction using the Adeli and Gravistat suits; clinical movement analysis, including posturography and biofeedback; robot-assisted rehabilitation using the Lokomat and Armeo systems; and the ExoAtlet exoskeleton.
    • The Center was also the first in Kazakhstan to introduce specialists such as occupational therapists, play therapists, music therapists, and Montessori educators as part of multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams.
    • For the first time in Kazakhstan, specialized rehabilitation programs for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) were introduced.
    • For the first time in Kazakhstan, a comprehensive social rehabilitation program was implemented within a single center. The program included orthotic services, dance, sports, and music halls, occupational therapy workshops, computer classrooms, winter gardens, and biofeedback therapy rooms.
    • The Center regularly hosts the international scientific and practical conference “Priority Areas in Rehabilitation and Balneology,” bringing together leading specialists and experts from more than 25 countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Italy, Russia, Japan, South Korea, China, Slovenia, Lithuania, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, and others.
    • Each year, approximately 4,200 children undergo rehabilitation at the Center. Over a 15-year period, the Center provided rehabilitation services to 61,647 children, of whom 32,975 achieved social adaptation and integration. Rehabilitation services are delivered through an integrative rehabilitation model based on three key components of multidisciplinary care: medical rehabilitation, educational and developmental support, and social adaptation.
